Amid spike in COVID-19 cases, sanitization tunnels lying defunct in Anantnag

Anantnag: After spending lacks of rupees on sanitization tunnels installed by Anantnag Municipal Corporation (AMC) at various places including GMC hospital in Anantnag last year have been rendered dysfunctional here in south kashmir’s Anantnag District.

These tunnels were installed to contain Corona spread last year soon after positive cases were reported in Anantnag District.

According to sources not a single tunnel is functional in Anantnag District as all the tunnels have been rendered dysfunctional and are useless installed by Anantnag Muncipal committee last year. Sources said that the concern authorities have wasted money to make these tunnels which is of no use.

However the concerned authorities have installed one of the sanitization tunnels at the gate of the GMC Anantnag; the said tunnel only lasted one month after which the tunnel remained dysfunctional.

It has been months now that it is not functional. I think it is high time to make it operational again as COVID19 cases are surging, said a doctor wishing non anonymity.

The installation of these tunnels was a welcome step. However, it is disappointing to see it dysfunctional at a time when it is needed most. He said.

Everybody was sanitized instantly while entering or leaving the hospital premises here in Anantnag District. Doctor said

An employee of GMC hospital Anantnag have expressed concern over sanitization tunnels being dysfunctional. Said that either the concern authorities have to operate it or the said tunnel should pick up there because they have only taken up space there. They have requested administration to make functional these tunnels again.

Meanwhile talking to Arising state president Munciple committee Anantnag Hilal Ahmad Shah said that I will talk to the Deputy commissioner Anantnag regarding the tunnels and we will see about the requirements accordingly we will do it, he said. Added that God had mercy here that is why we made tunnels dysfunctional, he said

However Arising state tried to contact the Deputy commissioner Anantnag but he didn’t pick up our call.
