Anantnag woman ‘set herself ablaze’; victim’s family blames her in-laws

Anantnag,25 March: A 28-year-old married woman sustained severe burn injuries after she  allegedly set herself ablaze in Akura Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday.

Reports said the woman (name withheld) was put ablaze at her home in Akura Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today morning.

She was rushed to GMC Anantnag where doctors referred her to SKIMS in Srinagar for advanced treatment.

The woman is the mother of two teenage kids, sources said.

Talking to Arising state SHO Mattan Waseem Ahmad said that they have received the complaint in the morning and that the incident took place after a scuffle was reported. ”I immediately sent a team of officials to the spot as well as to the hospital in Srinagar for investigation of the case, he said.

Added that a case has been registered under FIR No 15/2021 and investigation is on.

However,  the victim’s family puts blame on her in-laws and have alleged that she was put ablaze at her home in the Akura Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today morning. While talking to the Arising State, the victim’s brother said, ” her sister has suffered over 90% burns,  and is put in observation, at SKIMS hospital Srinagar, right now she is in critical condition, according to doctors,” his brother said. Added that the victim has already given a statement to police that she was set ablaze allegedly by her husband and  in-laws.”

A video has already gone viral on social media in which the victim accuses  that she has been set ablaze allegedly by her husband and  in-laws.”

Meanwhile, protests erupted in the native village of the lady, who has been subjected to domestic violence by her in-laws. The residents of her native village staged a protest and demanded action against the culprits and justice to the victim.
