UNESCO World Arabic Language Day Celebration 2023 at IUST
AWANTIPORA, DEC 20: The Department of Arabic Language and Literature, IUST celebrated the Arabic Language Day under the UNESCO designated theme for the year 2023, “Arabic-The Language of Poetry and Art”.
The event attended by faculty, scholars and students featured engaging discussions highlighting the rich linguistic and literary heritage of the language.
Dr. Inayet Rasool, Head, Department of Arabic Language and Literature highlighted the significance of Arabic poetry throughout the ages and urged the scholars and students to study the Arabic poetry composed by scholars and writers from the Kashmir region and bring it to the wider audience in and outside the country.
Dr. Mehran Qurashi, Head, Department of Architecture gave a detailed presentation on the development of Arabic Script through the ages.
He deliberated on the development of Arabic script and its interaction with the material culture across the times and regions.
He also shed light on the mutual influence of Architecture and Arabic script, especially the Hijazi and Kufic. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Irfani Rahim.
