Tral, 24 May: The residents of Wazilkulnad and Nagapathri areas in the Tral sub-district of South Kashmir have been facing hardships for more than a decade as the construction work on the main road which was started twelve years back is yet to be completed.
The aggrieved residents have said that Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) authorities failed to construct five-kilometre long Lalpora-Wazilkulnad road, due to which they suffer.
As per the sources, authorities had demarcated the land for the construction of road in 2008 and had accordingly started its work in 2009, which continued for a long time.
The road, however, witnessed back-to-back delays due to which it remains incomplete till the date.
One of the residents has said that officials concerned only give back-to-back assurances but no step is being taken to complete it.
He said that patients particularly expectant mothers face difficulties as the vehicles rarely run on this dilapidated road.
As per the residents, “the road work was resumed a couple of times since 2008, but was suspended again and again from time to time.”
They sought the intervention of higher-ups into the matter and demanded completion of the project at the earliest.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Tral, Shabir Ahmad told Arising State that the realignment proposal is already submitted to higher-ups of the department.
He said that work would be approved in a week’s time, while Chief Engineer PMGSY would also be visiting the area to personally look into the matter.
