Rain, Thunderstorms Likely in J&K; Temperatures Below Normal: IMD
Srinagar, Apr 5: The Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with temperatures currently running below normal in several parts of the Union Territory.
According to the latest weather report issued from the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, maximum daytime temperatures have remained 2–5°C below normal in many areas of Kashmir and 3–11°C below normal across parts of Jammu division over the past 24 hours.
Srinagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir at 16.3°C, while Jammu registered 27.4°C in the Jammu division. Night temperatures, however, showed mixed trends, remaining slightly above normal in parts of Kashmir and below normal in Jammu, with Gulmarg recording a low of 0.4°C.
The department reported widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms during the past day and predicted isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorm activity over the next 24 hours.
Looking ahead, the outlook for April 7 and 8 indicates widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, with the possibility of snowfall in higher reaches. Weather warnings also suggest isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–50 kmph in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions during this period.
As per the forecast table on page 1, rainfall activity is expected to intensify mid-week before easing towards the weekend. Meanwhile, local forecasts (page 2) indicate partly to generally cloudy skies in Srinagar and mainly clear to cloudy conditions in Jammu, with chances of light rain or thunderstorms in some areas.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay updated and remain cautious during periods of gusty winds and thunderstorms.
