Shopian July15: A government primary school in Zone Imam Sahb, Shopian, is grappling with a dilapidated building that severely lacks basic infrastructure, hampering the education of its students.
The government’s commitment to improving education in government-run schools is being called into question as a dilapidated school building in a remote area of Shopian stands as a stark contradiction.
Established in 2009, the primary school consists of three rooms, with one room designated for administrative purposes and the other two for classroom activities. Currently, the school has two teachers overseeing the education of 21 enrolled students.
According to sources, the school in Takiya Narwani Zone Imam Sahb, Shopian, has seen no significant improvements over the past 14 years. The building itself is in a state of disrepair, with large cracks on its walls, posing an imminent threat of collapse. Concerned residents of the village have appealed to the district administration to ensure the safety of the students attending the school.
The local community has emphasized the urgent need for the administration to prioritize this issue and provide immediate relief to the distressed children and their parents. It is imperative that the authorities take swift action to address the situation and rectify the inadequate infrastructure, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for the enrolled students.
During a conversation with Arising state, the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Imam Sahb revealed that they have taken proactive measures to address the issue. The ZEO stated that they have already communicated with all school heads, urging them to provide a comprehensive list of undisputed land suitable for constructing new schools. However, the ZEO expressed concerns about situations where state land is not readily available. As a result, the government is currently incurring significant expenses, amounting to crores of rupees, by renting private buildings to accommodate government-run schools due to the lack of land availability.
