Parra Seeks Transparent Probe in Ganderbal Encounter, Slams Reservation Policy

Jammu, Apr 4: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra on Saturday called for a transparent investigation into the Ganderbal encounter, demanding strict action against those found responsible and stressing that such incidents must not recur in the Kashmir Valley.

Welcoming the inquiry ordered by the administration, Parra said accountability is essential. He asserted that anyone found involved should face consequences, noting that similar incidents in the past have raised serious concerns.

Highlighting the need to safeguard innocent lives, the MLA urged the government to take concrete steps to prevent such occurrences in the future. He also pointed to lapses by individuals “acting in the name of militancy,” saying these must be addressed firmly.

Meanwhile, Parra criticised the Union Territory’s reservation policy, describing it as flawed and detrimental to merit. He argued that the existing framework does not reflect population proportions and called for its rationalisation.

“We are not against reservation, but it should be proportionate to the population,” he said, adding that a proposal aimed at revising the policy did not receive support in the Assembly.

Parra further accused the government of failing to address the concerns of the youth, particularly on issues related to fairness and equal opportunity.
