Mufti Urges Chief Secretary to Keep a Tighter Leash on His Words Amid Backdoor Appointment Claims “
Jammu, October 6 : PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti launched a scathing attack on allegations of backdoor appointments, cautioning the current Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, to choose his words carefully.
During a press conference in Jammu, Mehbooba Mufti suggested that if the Chief Secretary of J&K is genuinely convinced that more than 2.50 lakh employees have secured their government positions through fraudulent means, he should promptly engage agencies like the ED, NIA, CBI, and others to conduct a thorough investigation. She urged him to expose the wrongdoers.
Mehbooba remarked, “If the Chief Secretary is confident about illicit appointments in government departments, he should disclose the identities of those responsible. In doing so, he would essentially be leading a team comprising these very employees who, he claims, secured their positions improperly.”
She went on to accuse the current J&K government of being deeply entrenched in corruption at all levels, asserting that their policies have had a detrimental impact on the youth. Mehbooba alleged that local youth were losing their jobs due to the government’s anti-people policies, leading to a surge in terminations. She also criticized the government for awarding contracts to agencies like APTECH, which she claimed had negatively impacted the future prospects of young people.
Furthermore, she highlighted allegations of corruption within the Jal Shakti Department, where a senior IAS officer had reportedly raised concerns about a significant scandal. Mehbooba called on the Chief Secretary to address these concerns transparently, stating, “He shouldn’t be so careless with his words,” as she criticized the corruption prevailing in J&K.
