Meet Arsi Jan, Tral’s Mehandi artist who turned passion into career

Pulwama, 4 Oct: Taking advantage of the Internet, a self-taught Mehndi artist, Arsi Jan from Overigund village of Tral in Pulwama has managed to turn his passion of Mehandi Art into her career, thereby giving attractive choices to brides across the sub district.

20-year-old Arsi Jan is currently pursuing graduation in Arts at Government Degree College Tral, and has been applying Mehandi on brides for around two years.

Talking to this Journalist, Arsi said that she would go through instagram years back, and would follow Mehandi Design pages there, following which she was inspired, and started her own page, titled ‘Mehandi by Arsi’.

She said that she managed to apply Henna on around “50 brides in 2022, and 80 to 90 brides in 2023 till now.” The Mehandi artist is having more than three thousand followers on her instagram account, with appreciation comments on her work from netizens.

“I learned this art all by myself, and have been getting great response from people on social media. So far i managed to apply Mehandi on more than hundred brides, and i am satisfied with this work,” Arsi said, adding that she will continue to perform this artwork in future as well.

It is pertinent to mention here that, “Applying Henna on hands and feets is known as Mehndi, which is very old custom and art form, while weddings are incomplete without Mehandi ceremony.”
