Mainstream political leaders seek release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
Senior National Conference leader and Member Parliament Justice Hasnain Masoodi said that stopping Mirwaiz from offering prayers reflects the situation is not normal in Kashmir.
Speaking to KNS, NC leader said, ” By not allowing religious leader like Mirwaiz to move out to perform his religious duties openly indicates that the tall claims made by central and UT government are falling flat,” he said.
He urged the government to set Mirwaiz free so that he can perform his religious obligations.
Speaking to KNS regarding the house arrest of Mirwaiz, CPIM leader, Mohammad Yousuf Taragami said, “On one side Government is saying that no one is under detention now in Kashmir, even the claim was made from the floor of the parliament but on the other hand the influential religious leader like Mirwaiz is not allowed to lead the prayers at historical Jamia Masjid even in the Holy month of Ramadan.”
He added: “The government is contesting its own claims that no one is under detention here now.
Everything is normal, but the same government is not allowing Mirwaiz to move out.”
He asked for the restoration of democratic rights in Jammu and Kashmir without any excuse.
The treatment of the administration towards the Mirwaiz is unacceptable, unjustified, he added.
Reacting to the continued detention of Mirwaiz, PDF chairman Hakeem Yaseen said, “Our constitution has given us right to express and operate peacefully. The administration should allow Mirwaiz to lead the prayers at Jamia Masjid in this holy month.”
“Since the beginning, I am saying that Mirwaiz is a religious scholar. In this auspicious month of Ramadan the detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is very unfortunate. The government should set free the Mirwaiz at the earliest. The government should not interfere in religious obligations”, he said.
The government should release all political prisoners in view of Ramadan, he added.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference also termed the continuous house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq extremely unfortunate.
“The Pulpit of Jama Masjid would otherwise in the holy month of Ramada, all the more reverberate with spiritually uplifting waz and tableeg , supplications and fervent prayers to almighty Allah , providing solace and nourishment to the souls of those participating in it, “it added.
APHC said that such tactics only further alienation while strengthening our belief in steadfastness and patience, it reads. (KNS)
