Anantnag : The ambulance service at the Lone Maternity and Childcare Hospital (MCCH) in Anantnag, the largest hospital in South Kashmir, is facing significant challenges with only two ambulances available for hundreds of patients.

Sources indicate that the MCCH Anantnag, serving not only South Kashmir but also Chenab and Pir Panchal valleys, is currently operating with only two ambulances. This limited number is causing difficulties, especially for referral cases. The hospital, presently situated in an old, dilapidated building in the congested Sherbagh locality of Anantnag town, struggles to meet the transportation needs of its patients.

In response to these concerns, a spokesperson from the South Kashmir Civil Society (SKCS) expressed disappointment, stating that it is unfortunate for such a prominent hospital to have only two ambulances for critical referral cases. The spokesperson emphasized that this situation puts innocent patients and children’s lives at risk, and having only two ambulances cannot be considered progress for a prestigious institution like MCCH Anantnag. The society demands an immediate provision of the necessary ambulances for the well-being of patients, children, and pregnant women.

However, Medical Superintendent of MCCH Anantnag, Dr. Shahid, provided a different perspective. He mentioned that the hospital has four ambulances, two of which are currently undergoing repairs and are expected to be operational within the next two days. Dr. Shahid assured that he has already discussed the matter with GMC Principal Mam, and the issue is anticipated to be resolved soon.”
