Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran responded to Donald Trump’s 15-point proposal to end the war, adding that it is now awaiting a response from the US. Citing an unidentified “informed source”, the agency said Iran formally delivered its response to a 15-point proposal from the United States through intermediaries overnight. The context: Iran’s response to the US proposal cites five key points, largely the same as those circulated by the Iranian state-run news agency Press TV on Wednesday. The points include: A complete halt to “aggression and “assassinations” by the enemy. The establishment of concrete mechanisms to ensure that the war is not reimposed on the Islamic Republic. Guaranteed and clearly defined payment of war damages and reparations. The conclusion of the war across all fronts and for all resistance groups involved throughout the region International recognition and guarantees regarding Iran’s sovereign right to exercise authority over the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar, confirmed his country been operating as an indirect intermediary between the US and Iran, relaying messages as part of the meditation process. Dar said “indirect talks are taking place” between the parties and that Iran had received Washington’s 15-point plan via this route. Dar added that Turkey and Egypt, among others, are also extending their support to the peace talks. The news comes as US Central Command confirmed claims by the Israeli military that it had killed Iranian naval commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Alireza Tangsiri and other senior Iranian officials in a strike on Wednesday night. In a statement shared via X, US CentCom commander Brad Cooper said that the death of Tangsiri “makes the region safer” and that with 92% of the large ships in the Iranian Navy destroyed since the beginning of the conflict, IRGC-N has “completely lost their ability to project power in the Middle East or around the world…We call on every Iranian serving in the IRGC-N to immediately abandon their post and return home to avoid further risk of unnecessary injury or death.”(Agencies)
