“Government Permits Limited 8th Muharram Procession on Traditional Routes After Three Decades”
Srinagar, July 26 : In a significant and long-awaited development, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has made a historic decision to allow the 8th Muharram procession on its traditional routes. The procession, a deeply significant religious event for the Shia community, has been granted permission for a limited period of two hours.
After thorough and constructive consultations with representatives from the Shia community, the top officials of the J&K administration reached this landmark decision. For almost three decades, the procession had been restricted, but now, with the government’s nod, it will take place from 6 am to 8 am tomorrow.
The decision came after a high-level meeting convened by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, where the concerns and issues related to Muharram were extensively discussed. The meeting saw the active participation of several Shia leaders, who provided valuable suggestions to ensure the smooth conduct of Muharram activities.
