GDC Tral Organises Intra-College Poetry Competition

Tral: The Department of English Language and Literature organized an Intra College Poetry Competition on the occasion of English Language Day.

In the inaugural session, Dr Hilal Ahmad Wani presented an overwhelming welcome address, while Prof Ishaq Ahmad Wani, Head Department of English Language and Literature delivered keynote address in which he deliberated upon the importance of Poetry.

He also expressed the concern about dwindling habit of reading books and book shops being changed into footwear shops, garment shops and coffee shops.

Worthy Principal Prof.(Dr) Mohammad Farooq Mir in his insightful inaugural address talked about how different forms of poetry express emotions in a beautiful way and urged upon students to develop and continue their flair for writing Poetry.

In the technical session, students from various semesters recited their poems in a very impressive manner.

The poems written and recited by students were evaluated by Prof. Ishaq Ahmad Wani and Prof Tariq Ahmad Najar.

Ms.Andleeb Amin from 3rd semester, Ms. Irtiza from 3rd semester and Ms.Iqra Showkat from 5th semester were adjudged Ist ,2nd and 3rd respectively by the Jury.

Concluding remarks were delivered by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Dar and Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. Mohd Syed Lone.

Students were awarded prizes and participation certificates in the valedictory session.

The proceedings of the whole programme were conducted by Prof. Syeda Laila Khalid.
