Srinagar’s Iconic Tulip Garden to Close for Visitors on April 24 After Record-Breaking Season
According to official figures, the garden attracted an astounding 8,14,727 visitors, marking a historic footfall for the season. The closure decision follows a recommendation from the Tulip Committee, cited under Communication No. FO/NMBG/GS-15/98 dated April 21, 2025.
The season saw unprecedented visitor numbers, with the highest single-day count recorded at 81,352 on April 6. A strong local turnout was observed on the same day, with 52,652 residents making their way to the garden. Another significant crowd of over 70,000 visitors was recorded on April 13.
International tourists also added to the vibrant atmosphere, with 3,302 foreign visitors during the season. The peak for international footfall came on April 12, when 447 overseas guests explored the garden’s floral splendour.
From March 26 to March 31 alone, over 1.1 lakh visitors had already made their way into the garden. The busiest week, April 6 to April 12, drew more than 2.63 lakh visitors.
Officials thanked the public for their cooperation in maintaining the beauty and discipline of the garden. They noted that the early closure will help preserve the tulip bulbs and allow for better preparations for the 2026 season, which they hope will be even more spectacular.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has emerged as a symbol of Kashmir’s vibrant spring and a barometer of its tourism revival, drawing crowds from around the world to witness its blooming glory.
