NEP 2020’s vision can only be achieved by involving students in real-world learning: DESK Joint Director
Srinagar: In a significant step toward implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, International Delhi Public School (IDPS), Zakura Srinagar organized a one-of-a-kind educational event at school campus, featuring immersive Planetarium Shows titled “Wonders of Space” and an advanced 3D Virtual Reality (VR) experience. The program brought science and space exploration alive for students from Class 1st to Class 10th through interactive and visually captivating experiences.
The event witnessed the esteemed presence of Syed Shabir Joint Director of the School Education Department (Central Kashmir) as the Chief Guest; Ghulam Hassan ZEO Gulab Bagh; Showkat Mohammad Chowdary, Chairman IDPS Srinagar; S. M. F. Andrabi Director Operations for Kashmir and Ladakh; Miss Anisa Mehraj Vice Principal; Miss Saima Qazi Cambridge Wing Head along with parent body members and teachers. Also representatives from Mystery Domes, the company that facilitated the planetarium experience.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Shabir, Joint Director DESK (Central Kashmir) commended IDPS Srinagar for organizing such a meaningful and well-structured educational event. He highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is currently under implementation and initiatives like this are very crucial to advancing its vision. “Experiential learning and active student participation are essential aspects of NEP 2020. Events like today’s, which focused on galaxies, robotics and hands-on science lab experiences, play a vital role in enhancing students’ exposure and practical understanding. This kind of engagement aligns perfectly with NEP’s goals and helps push forward its practical implementation,” he stated.
Syed Shabir further emphasized that NEP 2020 is a broad and transformative vision for the future of education and its successful execution requires consistent efforts from all educational stakeholders. “We have already started implementing parts of the policy across all institutions in Kashmir. I have directed cluster heads and heads of institutions to encourage similar initiatives, ensuring that more schools adopt these innovative teaching methods. Involvement of technical heads, IT experts and edu leaders at such events will further reinforce the mission.
I urge all the educators to actively contribute to NEP implementation within their capacities. While some reforms will take time and government intervention, others—like involving students in real-world learning—can be done at the school level. Take students out, show them how things work and help them gain real, practical experience. That is how we bring true change in education,” he concluded.
A team from Mystery Domes—an international company that specializes in mobile planetarium shows across countries including India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Rwanda was specially invited by Director Operations IDPS Srinagar for this program. Mystery Domes brings high-quality, immersive astronomy-based educational content to schools and universities across the world. The session was led by the company’s Vice President, Mohammad Riyas, who has pioneered numerous science outreach programs in multiple countries.
Mohammad Riyas, Vice President of Mystery Domes, shared his thoughts “Our mission is to make the wonders of the universe accessible to every child, no matter where they are. Vice Principal, IDPS Srinagar, Miss Anisa Mehraj , reflected on the event’s success, says “Witnessing our students embark on a virtual journey through space was truly inspiring. The wonder in their eyes and their eagerness to learn reaffirmed the incredible power of experiential education. When learning becomes an experience rather than just a lesson, it leaves a lasting impact and that’s the kind of education we strive to provide every single day at IDPS”.
Miss Saima Qazi, Head of the Cambridge Wing at IDPS Srinagar, emphasized the broader significance of the event, stating “Initiatives like these don’t just teach science — they cultivate global awareness, critical thinking and a spirit of exploration in our students. By blending technology with imagination, we’re helping learners connect with the world beyond textbooks. It’s heartening to see parents recognize and support this forward-thinking approach to education.”
The students were equally thrilled. ‘It felt like I was really walking in space! We learned about galaxies, black holes, and even launched rockets virtually. I’m super excited about the upcoming programs,’ said one student. The event marked a significant milestone for IDPS Srinagar in making modern education more interactive and enjoyable. With the promise of more tech-integrated programs in the near future, the school continues to pioneer NEP 2020’s mission of a holistic and future-ready education system.
