Kulgam, May 04 : The body of a 23-year-old man was recovered from a Nallah in the Adbal Wattoo area of DH Pora, South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, on Sunday. Police claim the deceased was an Over Ground Worker (OGW) with knowledge of terrorist hideouts.

Officials identified the deceased as Imtiaz Ahmad Magray, son of Nazir Ahmad Magray, a resident of Tangmarg, who was working as a labourer.

According to police sources, Magray had confessed to having information about a terror hideout where two Pakistani terrorists were believed to be present. He was reportedly cooperating with security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Sunday morning.

“While being taken to the suspected hideout near the riverbed, under strict drone surveillance, Magray suddenly jumped into the Vishow Nallah, apparently in an attempt to escape through the river route,” a police official said.

His body was later retrieved by locals and handed over to police for medico-legal formalities.

Sources further said that Magray had also been aware of another terrorist hideout that was previously busted by security forces in Tangmarg forest on April 23, during which a contact encounter had taken place.

Police are treating the incident as a suspected suicide and said that legal proceedings have been initiated. (KNO)
