Waripora Residents Demolish Kaaba-Like Structure Built by Mentally Ill Man
Srinagar: Residents of Waripora village in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have demolished a structure resembling the Kaaba, which was erected by a mentally ill man.
The individual had allegedly been presenting himself as revered Sufi saint Sheikh Nooruddin Wali and had invited people to visit his site as an alternative to Umrah.
Concerns were raised by religious scholars, including Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, who called for the man’s immediate arrest. Authorities later took him into custody.
Officials confirmed that the individual would undergo a mental health evaluation before any legal proceedings.
Authorities have reiterated that such acts of religious misrepresentation will not be tolerated.
