Union Minister of Ayush inaugurates International Conference on ‘Diet and nutrition in Unani Medicine for Good Health & Wellbeing”
MoU signed with Morarji Desai Institute of Yoga, New Delhi for setting up two Regional Yoga Therapy and Training centers in Jammu & Kashmir
Srinagar, 10 March 2022. Shri Sarbanada Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ayush and Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India inaugurated an International Conference on the theme ‘Diet and nutrition in Unani Medicine for Good Health & Wellbeing” and Unani Day celebration at SKICC, Srinagar, J&K. Researchers and academicians from all around the world joined the conference in person or through online mode.
On this occasion, on behalf of Department of Health and Medical education, J&K, Dr. Mohan Singh, Director Ayush, J&K, signed a memorandum of understanding with Morarji Desai Institute of Yoga, New Delhi for establishing two Regional Yoga Therapy and Training centers at Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu and Government Unani Hospital, Shalteng, Srinagar. Through these centers YCB certified Yoga Professions will be produced and Yoga will reach each and every household of J&K. Yoga has found global acceptance as a remedy for physical & mental disorders and its introduction at grassroot level in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir will tremendously help in improving the health indicators.
In his inaugural address Shri Sarbanada Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ayush stressed that the legacy of prominent Unani physicians like Hakim Ajmal Khan should be carried forward and extensive research should be carried to make Unani system of medicine a widely accepted mode of treatment. He also said that the system should move ahead with use of latest technology, scientific development and research.
During the inaugural session of the conference a live Yoga session was also conducted by Yoga instructors of Directorate of Ayush, J&K. A video documentary with the theme “Jammu & Kashmir main Ayush kay badhtay kadam” was also streamed during the conference emphasizing the role and importance of Ayush Sector at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care for improving Health indicators in UT of J&K. The Documentary also highlighted the achievements of Ayush in the UT of J&K with special focus on regimental therapies a Specialized mode of treatment in Unani System of Medicine.
Central Council of Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of Ayush organised the two day International Conference to celebrate World Unani Day in commemoration of the birthday anniversary of eminent Unani Physician and Scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan. Originally scheduled on 11th February, the birth anniversary celebration was deferred due to surge in COVID 19 cases.
Guest of Honour of the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai, Minister of State Ayush and Minister of State Women & Child Development stressed on importance of diet in prevention of disease in his address and said that world is looking towards Ayush systems of Medicine for possible answers of major health problems.
Speaking on the occasion Shri. Vivek Bhardwaj (IAS) Additional Chief Secretary Health & Medical Education Department J&K called upon the doctors and researchers of Ayush systems of medicine to take the lead in making Ayush Sector popular in UT. He also informed the participants of the conference that WHO Global Centre for Traditional System of Medicine is being established at Jam Nagar, Gujrat. The Centre will help in establishing scientific evidences with regard the efficacy and safety of traditional systems of Medicine.
Shri Pramod Kumar Pathak, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, GoI, Vaidya Jayant Yashwant Deopujari, Chairman, National Commission for Indian Systems of Medicine, Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Professor Asim Ali Khan, DG, CCRUM, Ministry of Ayush, Dr Mohan Singh, Director Ayush, J&K and Dr Mukhtar Kazmi Advisor Unani, Ministry of Ayush were also present in the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
