Ujwala Scheme Scandal Unveiled in Anantnag: Allegations of Aadhar Card Misuse Surface

Anantnag, 23 November : The Ujwala Scheme scandal has surfaced in District Anantnag, with several beneficiaries alleging that their Aadhar card numbers have been misused by agencies, and connections have been fraudulently obtained on their Aadhar cards by unknown individuals.
In an interview with Arising State, a local resident from Anantnag expressed his concerns, stating, “A few days back, I went to a gas agency in Anantnag to apply for the Ujwala Scheme. The person at the agency informed me that my connection had already been taken under my Aadhar card by someone from Pahalgam. I have never applied for this scheme before, and I don’t personally know the individual,” he claimed.
Another beneficiary from Dialgam raised similar grievances, stating, “I was told that my connection was taken from Baramulla, where I don’t know anyone. How is it possible that an Anantnag resident’s connection should be associated with Baramulla District?” The beneficiaries are demanding an inquiry from the government and urging the administration to take action against the fraudsters.
It’s important to note that the Ujwala Scheme primarily focuses on providing LPG connections to women from below the poverty line (BPL) households, SC/ST communities, beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Antyoday Anna Yojana (AAY), forest dwellers, and other disadvantaged groups.
Assistant Director Food Anantnag, Mudasir Ahmad, responded to the concerns, stating, “We will verify it first, and action will be taken.”
