JAMMU, Sept 26: In a significant development, the Jammu & Kashmir Government has taken decisive action by removing a councilor from the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) due to the misuse of her official authority.

The Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD) has issued an order for the removal of Jyoti Devi, a councilor at the Jammu Municipal Corporation, following her apprehension by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 1000.

The action has been taken in accordance with the powers vested under Section 34(I) (b) of The Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. Consequently, Smt. Jyoti Yadav, councilor of Ward No 53, has been removed from her office with immediate effect due to her abuse of official powers, as stated in the official order released by the H&UDD.

It is noteworthy that this is the second instance of such corrective measures being taken within the past two years. Previously, the president of the municipal committee in Awantipora, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, was also removed from office for misusing his official authority.
