Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 observes at NIT Srinagar with enthusiastic participation

Initiatives focus on sustainability, community health, and spreading awareness across campus

Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar observed the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyaan 2025 with a series of week-long cleanliness, sanitation, and sustainability activities, reaffirming its commitment to the nationwide Clean India Mission.The campaign, organised by the EBSB Cell in collaboration with NSS and NCC units, witnessed active participation of students, faculty, and staff.

The programme began on September 17 with an oath-taking ceremony led by Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Prof. Abid Bazaz, Dean Student Welfare, Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman, EBSB Nodal Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar, NSS Head Dr. Pramod Yadav, and NCC Head Dr. Nitika Kundan.In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, said the institute has a responsibility to align with national missions and set an example for students.

“Cleanliness and sustainability are not one-time efforts but lifelong habits. Through these initiatives, we want our students to become torchbearers of a cleaner, greener future,” he said.Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman said the observance highlighted the spirit of teamwork and social responsibility on campus. “When faculty, staff, and students come together for a cause like this, the impact goes beyond the campus and inspires the larger community,” he added.

Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz, said that the active participation of students is the backbone of these drives.”Active participation of students in cleanliness, health awareness, and plantation activities demonstrates their commitment to social responsibility. It is heartening to see them embracing these initiatives not only as campus activities but as steps toward building a sustainable and socially responsible society,” he added.

As part of the drive, a campus-wide cleanliness activity was held on September 20, followed by a sanitation drive the next day. On September 22, the institute organised a Safai Mitra Swachhata Shivir at its medical unit, offering health consultations to sanitation workers.A separate Girls’ Hostel sanitation drive was conducted under Lt. Col Dr. Nitika Kundan.

On September 25, faculty, staff, and students jointly participated in the initiative “Ek Din, Ek Sath, Ek Ghanta,” cleaning the main block fountain area.To promote recycling, a Best Out of Waste competition was organised on September 27, along with a Women Sanitation Awareness programme during which sanitary pads were distributed to hostel staff and mess workers.

On September 28, two major events were held: a Swachhata Run beginning from the main faculty block, and a plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Vatan Ke Naam” in which participants planted a variety of trees around the campus.EBSB Nodal Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar said the campaign reflects the values of responsibility and collective effort.

“The Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyaan is not just about keeping our surroundings clean but about nurturing awareness, responsibility, and sustainable practices in young minds. At NIT Srinagar, we are committed to making this a culture, not just a campaign,” he said.The campaign is scheduled to end on October 2, with the necessary arrangements that are currently underway.

 

 

Govt introduces MFA Security System on JK BEAMS Portal Jammu:The Finance Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Government has implemented Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) through Sandes (SMS-based authentication) on the JK BEAMS Portal to further strengthen the security framework of the online financial management system.According to an official circular issued by the department, the MFA system has been successfully integrated into the live environment and all concerned officers and users have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new security protocols. The circular applies to all Director Finances, Director Plannings, Financial Advisors (FAs), Chief Accounts Officers (CAOs), Accounts Officers (AOs), Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), and Maker/Checker users associated with the JK BEAMS Portal. The department has emphasized that Maker/Checker users shall be solely responsible for the secure handling, confidentiality and proper use of their login credentials. Users have been strictly instructed not to share login details, one-time passwords (OTPs) or any authentication-related information with any unauthorized person under any circumstances. Officials have also been directed to ensure that their registered mobile numbers linked with Sandes remain active, valid and accessible for receiving authentication messages. Any discrepancy, authentication failure or technical issue is required to be reported immediately through the official email IDs issued by the department. The circular further stated that the respective Maker/Checker users will be held solely accountable for any transaction or activity carried out using their credentials.The order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority under reference number FD-BDGTODBT/1/2025-PMU-FD (7651222), and copies have been forwarded to all Administrative Secretaries for information and necessary compliance.
