Awantipora, 20 November: A stadium in Midoora village of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district has turned dilapidated, leaving the young players wistful.
One of the players told Arising State that the playground was constructed by the Rural Development Department (RDD), “however, its condition is pitiable due to which players are not able to play there.”
He said that stadium is now occupied by some apiarists, after they found it abandoned, full of thorns and cowpats.
The cricket lovers of the village, now prefer to play in nearby villages, yearning to see a playable ground instead.
They sought the intervention of Rural Development Department authorities and demanded immediate repairs of the stadium.
Concerned Block Development Officer (BDO), Primrose Bashir, when contacted, told Arising State that they have already started some work there and assured that “in next working season (financial year), it shall be restored to its glory”
He said that they would have restored the playground this year, but before that have to repair the cracked retention wall first
The official requested people to utilize their amenities in the true sense, as according to him, “the field has been left to negligence by people themselves, paving way for apiarists”.
He added “had it been used by youth to play, things would have been different”.
