Six policemen, two prisoners injured in south Kashmir road accident

Six policemen and two prisoners were injured in a road accident in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Tuesday.

While sharing details the officials said that a police vehicle was transporting two prisoners from sub jail Mattan to court complex Kulgam.

‘The vehicles met an accident at Keeribal in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday,’’they said ,both the prisoners and six policemen accompanying them were injured.

Block Medical Officer (BMO), Mattan Mohammad Ashraf Pader said that they have received eight injured persons including six cops and two prisoners.

Among the injured, BMO said that the two prisoners Tawseef Ahmad of Tangdoo village and Rasik Ahmad of Such Kulgam were referred to district hospital Anantnag for specialized treatment.

The injured policemen were identified as Ghulam Mohdin (Police Station Yaripora), Mushtaq Ahmad (Police Station Yaripora), Farooq Ahmad (Police Station Kulgam) Mohd Shafeeq (DPL Kulgam), Farooq Ahmad (PS Qazigund) and Masood Ahmad (DPL Kulgam).

Station House Officer (SHO), Mattan also confirmed the mishap and said that all the injured have been hospitilized and their condition is said to be stable.

He said that the police team was carrying the two prisoners from the district jail to a local court in Kulgam for hearing.

A case has been registered and investigations into the matter have been initiated, he said.
