Shar-i-Shalli residents in Pampore demand construction of sports ground

Awantipora, 14 Dec: The residents of Shar-i-Shalli village in the Pampore area of Pulwama district on Monday demanded construction work on the proposed sports ground.
The aggrieved residents have said that they have been hankering to see a sports ground in their village for years, however, no effective measures are being taken to fulfill the long pending demand of its residents.
They said that the lack of the stadium has halted the sports activities in the village leaving aspiring sportsmen to lose heart.
“We have been longing to see a sports ground in the village. Many attempts were made by the villagers, assurances were also given by the administration, but no work was initiated,” residents said.
The members of Wahab Khar welfare society Shar-i-Shalli rued, “authorities had only identified the land for the stadium, but failed to start the construction work on the project “.
In a written statement, they said that 30 Kanal land (Shamilat Deh Mehfooz Kahcharie) was identified under survey no. 2436, by the administration for the sports activities, on which work is yet to be started.
The residents demanded that the proposal to construct the stadium in the village should be taken into consideration and work should also be started, as soon as possible, so that aspiring sportsmen in the village may heave a sigh of relief.
Block Development Officer (BDO), Pampore, when contacted, picked up the call twice, but didn’t talk, due to the reasons better known to him.
