Salman Khurshid, KC Venugopal in Srinagar for Final Attempt to Reach Consensus with NC
Srinagar, Aug 26: The Congress and the National Conference (NC) are likely heading for friendly contests in nearly a dozen seats in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, as a consensus over a pre-poll alliance remains elusive.
With just one day left for filing nominations for the first phase of polling on August 27, both parties have yet to announce their candidates, signaling ongoing deliberations.
To finalize the alliance, the Congress high command has dispatched senior leaders Salman Khurshid and KC Venugopal to Srinagar for a last-ditch effort to reach an agreement. The two leaders are set to meet with NC president Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah in a bid to iron out differences.
Disagreements over seat-sharing have been particularly pronounced in constituencies like Doda in the Jammu division and Central Shalteng in the Kashmir division, complicating the negotiations.
As the clock ticks down, the outcome of these high-level discussions will be crucial in shaping the electoral strategy of both parties in the region.(KNO)
