Srinagar, April 4:Peoples Conference President and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone on Saturday strongly raised the issue of non-disclosure of commercial lease data in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, accusing the government of continiously evading replies despite repeated queries.
Addressing the House, Lone said he had been seeking details on commercial leases for the past three sessions, including two budget sessions and the Srinagar session, but had received no response. He emphasized that the continued silence on the matter raises serious concerns.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to know how much government land is under commercial lease and the revenue being generated from it,” Lone asserted.
He further revealed that he had formally written to the Speaker in the previous session seeking intervention and had been assured that the information would be provided. However, he noted that even in the current session, the reply was not furnished.
Questioning the government’s intent, Lone asked why such critical information was being withheld, terming the lack of transparency as detrimental to accountability within the Assembly.
He warned that failure to disclose such data weakens institutional credibility and undermines public trust in governance.
