Safina Baig, wife of senior politician and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, formally joined the party in the presence of NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Minister for Rural Development Javid Ahmad Dar, senior leader Ali Mohammad Sagar, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, and several other party leaders. She was accompanied by a large number of supporters.

Political observers view Safina Baig’s entry into the National Conference as a major organisational gain for the party in Baramulla district, where the NC secured six of the seven Assembly constituencies in the 2024 elections.

Muzaffar Hussain Baig, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), served as Deputy Chief Minister in the PDP-Congress coalition government headed by Ghulam Nabi Azad. Over the years, he represented the Baramulla Assembly constituency after winning the elections in 2002 and 2008, and later emerged victorious from the Baramulla Parliamentary constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.Jammu, July 8: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday said the party has brought a significant shift in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir through its focus on nationalism, inclusive development and public welfare, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting the region’s rich cultural and civilizational heritage.

Addressing a high-level meeting of BJP legislators, Members of Parliament, former legislators and senior party office-bearers at the party headquarters in Jammu, Nabin stressed the need to further strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots level and maintain constant engagement with the people.

He called upon elected representatives to work in close coordination with the party organisation and ensure that the benefits of various government welfare schemes reach every deserving citizen. He said public outreach should remain a continuous process and not be confined to election periods.

Nabin asserted that the BJP is dedicated to preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s unique identity, traditions and cultural values while pursuing the agenda of inclusive development, transparent governance and public welfare. He maintained that a strong organisational structure is essential to effectively address public aspirations and expand the party’s presence across the Union Territory. The BJP chief also asked party leaders and workers to remain prepared for future electoral challenges by continuing organisational activities throughout the year. He emphasized that discipline, teamwork and uninterrupted public service remain the guiding principles of the party’s political strategy.

The meeting was attended by senior BJP leaders, Members of Parliament, MLAs, former legislators and party office-bearers, who reviewed organisational strengthening, public outreach initiatives and development priorities for Jammu and Kashmir. (KNC)
