“Residents Grateful as Under Construction Building Saves Village from Threat”

Shopian, 28 July. The proactive intervention by the Block Development Officer of Chitragam region in Shopian District has averted a potentially disastrous situation in said village, where an under construction building of Block development department stood unfinished for an extended period.

The swift action taken by the BDO has not only prevented the building from becoming a hub for drug abuse but also saved it from being exploited for immoral activities.

The building in question, located in the heart of Chitragam village, had been left in state of neglect for a prolonged period. Local residents expressed concerns over the vacant structure, fearing it could attract undesirable elements criminal activities. In recent times, there were growing worries that the abandoned building might have been used for drug abuse, posing a significant threat to the community’s well being.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the diligent BDO of the area, took immediate action upon learning about the potential risks associated with the abandoned construction.

Residents said, they are very thankful to the BDO for responding to our concerns promptly. The abandoned building had become a cause for worry among the residents. We were afraid it might have been transformed into a drug den, endangering our children and entire community.

“The BDO’s commitment to the well being of our village has not only salvaged the building from its deserted state but also helped restore a sense of security and peace in the area. With the completion of the structure now stands as a symbol of progress and hope, ready to serve a beneficial purpose for the community,” they added.

One of the residents of village said, seeing young kids and boys wondering around that abandoned building were a distressing sight. “I could not bear the thought of a tragic incident occurring, and I knew we needed to act fast, so I decided to personally approach the BDO and emphasize the urgent need for the building’s completion. Thankfully, the BDO responded promptly and prioritized the project,”

Although the recent construction has brought immense relief to the residents, there are various portion of building which is still to be completed to secure it and prevent unauthorized access, ensuring that it remains off limits to anyone.

While contacting the BDO of said area he stated that, they are aware about of the concerns raised by villagers and assure them that the plans for building fencing are already in motion and it will be brought in action very soon.

As the community eagerly awaits the completion of the building fencing, they remain steadfast in their commitment to supporting the BDO’s efforts to maintain a secure environment.

With the implementation of building fencing on the horizon, the village looks forward to a future free from worry, fostering an environment where residents can thrive and children can play without fear.
