Ammonium nitrate used in suicide attack carried by militants in Pulwama carnage: Investigating agencies reveal

Share

Investigating agencies have revealed that  the explosive material used  in suicide bombing on CRPF convoy which left 49 CRPF personnel dead and several others injured on Thursday afternoon in the Valley, when a suicide bomber rammed his Scorpio SUV laden with explosives into a CRPF bus in south Kashmir,  was Ammonium Nitrate  and not RDX as initially thought.

It seems that ammonium nitrate has been used, however, it will be confirmed only when the report of forensic lab comes out as per the officials of the said agencies. Investigating agencies have already collected and sent samples for forensic evaluation.

Pertinently,Amonium nitrate was stolen by militants last year ,read an  official communiqué issued by agencies  in Jan,2018.The communique  read, “in the wake of recent Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Sopore in Baramulla district that left four cops dead, “uncorroborated intelligence input regarding pilferage of ammonium nitrate by militant organisations (suggest that) there is likelihood of attacks on forces including police by the militants using ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) as explosives.” The communiqué was published in a local newspaper.

However, the document did not carry any details about the quantity or the location of the pilferage.
