Srinagar, Nov 19:Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Srinagar City, Muzaffar Ahmed Shah Monday said that he is deeply disturbed by the recent loss of young lives due to reckless driving in Srinagar city.

“As the SSP Traffic Srinagar, I am compelled to take stringent action to curb this menace. In the past four days, we have seized over 1,000 vehicles, mostly two-wheelers, driven by minors without licenses. This is unacceptable and puts not only their lives but also others at risk,” he said,

“As part of our drive against underage driving, we have counseled minors and involved their parents in the process. I firmly believe that parental support is crucial in addressing this issue. We need parents to cooperate with us to ensure road safety. Unfortunately, we have noticed that some parents are supporting their children who are not even 18 yet, allowing them to drive two-wheelers and scooters,” the SSP told reporters in Srinagar.

“Let me reiterate that we will continue to seize vehicles driven by minors without licenses. In fact, we can seize up to 500 two-wheelers daily. However, without parental support, our efforts will be in vain. I urge all parents to take responsibility for their children’s actions and ensure they follow traffic rules,” he said.

Divulging information about road accidents, the SSP said that the statistics are alarming – at least 500 lives are lost annually in Kashmir due to road accidents. “We must act collectively to change this narrative. Our drive against underage driving will continue, and we will do everything in our power to make our roads safer,” he said.
