In a major development that has shaken India’s biggest medical entrance exam, NEET UG 2026 has been cancelled following allegations of a ‘guess paper’ leak. The decision comes after inputs from central agencies raised concerns about the integrity of the exam held on May 3. With lakhs of students affected, the government has now stepped in, ordering a CBI probe and announcing a re-examination to restore trust in the system.

WHY NEET UG 2026 WAS CANCELLED

According to the National Testing Agency, the decision was taken after reviewing inputs shared by law enforcement agencies. These findings indicated that the examination process may have been compromised.

In its official statement, NTA said the exam “could not be allowed to stand” after considering all evidence. The move, it added, was necessary to maintain transparency and credibility in the national testing system.

CBI TO PROBE ‘GUESS PAPER’ LEAK

The Government of India has handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry.

The agency will investigate how the alleged ‘guess paper’ circulated before the exam and whether organised malpractice was involved. NTA has said it will fully cooperate by sharing all records, data, and materials required for the probe.

WHAT NTA SAID ON RE-EXAM
NTA confirmed that NEET UG 2026 will be conducted again, with fresh dates to be announced soon through official channels.

The agency also acknowledged that the re-exam will cause inconvenience to students and families, but stressed that continuing with a compromised exam would have caused greater long-term damage to trust.

NO FRESH REGISTRATION, FEES TO BE REFUNDED
Students will not have to apply again for the re-exam. Existing data will be used.

Registration details and candidature will be carried forward
Previously selected exam centres will remain valid
No additional examination fee will be charged
Fees already paid will be refunded
Fresh admit cards will be issued before the new exam

WHAT STUDENTS SHOULD DO NOW
Candidates should rely only on official updates from NTA and avoid misinformation circulating on social media. With new dates expected soon, students may need to rework their preparation strategy and stay exam-ready.(IT)

Govt introduces MFA Security System on JK BEAMS Portal Jammu:The Finance Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Government has implemented Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) through Sandes (SMS-based authentication) on the JK BEAMS Portal to further strengthen the security framework of the online financial management system.According to an official circular issued by the department, the MFA system has been successfully integrated into the live environment and all concerned officers and users have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new security protocols. The circular applies to all Director Finances, Director Plannings, Financial Advisors (FAs), Chief Accounts Officers (CAOs), Accounts Officers (AOs), Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), and Maker/Checker users associated with the JK BEAMS Portal. The department has emphasized that Maker/Checker users shall be solely responsible for the secure handling, confidentiality and proper use of their login credentials. Users have been strictly instructed not to share login details, one-time passwords (OTPs) or any authentication-related information with any unauthorized person under any circumstances. Officials have also been directed to ensure that their registered mobile numbers linked with Sandes remain active, valid and accessible for receiving authentication messages. Any discrepancy, authentication failure or technical issue is required to be reported immediately through the official email IDs issued by the department. The circular further stated that the respective Maker/Checker users will be held solely accountable for any transaction or activity carried out using their credentials.The order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority under reference number FD-BDGTODBT/1/2025-PMU-FD (7651222), and copies have been forwarded to all Administrative Secretaries for information and necessary compliance.
