Light Rain, Thunderstorms Likely in J&K This Week; Gusty Winds Expected from June 3
MeT Forecasts Rain, Lightning and Hailstorm Activity in J&K This Week
Srinagar, June 1: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast isolated light rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, with weather activity expected to intensify from June 3 onwards.
According to the latest weather bulletin issued on Monday, isolated to scattered rain and thundershower activity is likely across the Union Territory over the next seven days. While Kashmir is expected to remain largely dry on June 1, isolated rainfall is forecast from June 2, with fairly widespread precipitation likely on June 4 and 5. Similar weather conditions are expected across Jammu division.
The MeT Department has also warned of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph between June 3 and June 6 in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during periods of adverse weather.
During the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures remained 1-3 degrees Celsius above normal in many parts of Kashmir, while temperatures in several areas of Jammu division were 2-6 degrees below normal. Srinagar recorded the highest day temperature in Kashmir at 29.8°C, while Kathua was the hottest place in Jammu division at 34.8°C.
Night temperatures also remained above normal across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 9.2°C, while Bhaderwah registered 15.0°C in Jammu division. Light rainfall was reported at a few places during the period.
For Tuesday, Srinagar is expected to witness partly cloudy skies with chances of very light rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures likely to hover around 29°C and 17°C. Jammu is likely to experience mainly clear to partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures around 34°C and 25°C.
