KCCI hails UNESCO for choosing Srinagar city in craft and folk art category

Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad ,President, Kashmir  Chamber of Commerce & Industry   appreciating   the  United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for choosing Srinagar among 49 Cities as part of the Creative City in the craft and folk art category. The UNESCO creative City  Network involves  seven creative  fields crafts and  Folk Art, Media , Film, Literature, Design, Gastronomy and Media Arts. Srinagar is the only city from India to make it to the list this year 2021. Through their commitment, cities are championing sustainable development actions that directly benefit communities at urban level.

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry held various meetings  with Director Handicrafts, Kashmir and INTACH-Kashmir Chapter and has given active support and  suggestions from time to time.Great recognition that our crafts are not only economic assets, but more widely contribute to a process of building and rebuilding community identities. The inclusion of Srinagar in the creative city network for the arts and crafts of UNESCO has paved a way for it to represent its handicrafts on the global stage through the international body.It is a proud moment for all of us and especially  for artisans of  our heritage crafts, late but at least their work  has finally got global recognition.This achievement  has put Srinagar on the heritage  platform and will help the million of Kashmiri  Artisans associated with this  rich arts and crafts of Jammu  & Kashmir.
