Journalist Fraternity Kupwara Holds Elections, Senior Mediaperson Yahya Sultan Elected As President

Srinagar: Journalist Fraternity Kupwara Thursday held its much-anticipated elections to choose office bearers to lead the fraternity for upcoming stint.

The election process was conducted in a free and fair manner in the presence of independent observers, roped in from the recently elected media association of Handwara.

The election process, as per Alfaaz-The Words, saw active participation from all the fraternity members which includes senior journalists of the north Kashmir district viz. Yahya Sultan, Rahee Mushtaq, Jahangir Lolabi, Sahil Shameem, Suhail Yousuf Shah, Peerzada Zubair, Irshad Ahmad Wani, Sharafat Manzoor, Zahid Javid, Junaid Dar, Raja Manzoor, Irshad Ahmad, Tariq Lone, Irshad Ahmad Khan and other budding journalists.

For the post of President, Yahya Sultan (NEWS 18), was elected unopposed as President of the Fraternity for a second consecutive term, while for the post of Vice President Suhail Yousuf Shah (Editor Global Kashmir Newspaper) was also elected as unopposed.

The other members who saw their election to different posts included; Sahil Shameem (Gulistan News) as Chairman, Jahangir Lolabi (GNS/Kashmir Glory) as Vice chairman, Rahee Mushtaq (DD News) General Secretary, Irshad Wani (TRK News)as Secretary, Peerzada Zubair (ANI News) as Publicity Secretary and Zahid Javid as Treasurer.

The newly elected body pledged to work for the upliftment of the fraternity.

Meanwhile, several civil bodies have felicitated the newly elected body and expressed hope that they will work for the overall benefit of the people and highlight their issues with the authorities concerned.
