Srinagar, October 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has formally appealed to the General Administration Department (GAD) to declare Wednesday, October 30, 2024, as a public holiday in observance of the Urs of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), a prominent spiritual event in Kashmir.

This request follows the government’s postponement of the originally scheduled holiday from September 30, 2024. The decision to shift the date was made via Government Order No. 1687-JK(GAD), issued on September 28, 2024.

In its official communication (Reference: JKWB/P.A./Teh/886-88), the Waqf Board noted that the new holiday date was confirmed by the Executive Magistrate/Tehsildar of the J&K Waqf Board, Kashmir. The Chief Executive Officer, Zaheer Ahmad, highlighted the religious and cultural significance of the Urs and urged that the holiday be observed in Kashmir province only, allowing for full participation in the spiritual event.

The Urs of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), a revered saint in Kashmiri culture, draws thousands of devotees annually. The GAD’s official declaration is awaited to formalize the holiday, which will enable the public to honor the saint’s legacy.
