Anantnag : The sub-district hospital in Kokernag, situated in the southern region of Kashmir, has been operating without a permanent block medical officer for over a month, resulting in significant disruptions to both healthcare services and administrative affairs.

According to official sources, the absence of a permanent block medical officer has severely impacted the smooth functioning of the hospital. While a temporary charge has been assigned to a doctor, the situation remains far from ideal, as the sub hospital requires a dedicated medical officer to effectively address the healthcare needs of the local population.

The repercussions of the headless administration have been particularly distressing for the surrounding villages, which heavily rely on the services provided by the sub-hospital. Both the administrative operations and the well-being of the local residents have been adversely affected by this situation.

Local residents have expressed their anguish at the failure of the administration to promptly fill the vacant position despite a month passing since the transfer of the previous block medical officer. The absence of a competent officer has resulted in inconveniences faced by both the hospital staff and patients, amplifying the difficulties faced by the entire community.

The concerned locals are urging the LG administration to urgently appoint a new officer to address their grievances and ensure the smooth functioning of the sub hospital.

Responding to the situation, Dr. Mohd Yousuf Zagoo, the Chief Medical Officer of Anantnag, stated that the post of the block medical officer in Kokernag sub hospital has been vacant since the previous officer’s transfer. Dr. Zagoo assured that the matter has been brought to the attention of higher authorities, and steps are being taken to fill the vacant position promptly, alleviating the hardships faced by the local community.
