Tral: The NSS volunteers of GDC Tral led by programme officers, Dr. Waseem A. Wani and Prof. Feroza Majeed, and fully supported by senior faculty members, Prof. Ishaq A. Wani (Asst. Prof. of English) and Dr. Fehmida Wani (Asst. Prof. of History), conducted an “Awareness Cum Assistance Campaign” within the downtrodden communities in the nearby villages of the college under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.

The programme was inspired by the worthy principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Farooq Mir, who highlighted the need to spread educational and personal hygiene awareness within the less privileged communities in these tough times of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As per a press release issued to Arising State, the volunteers and the programme officers visited around 50 families, interacted with them about their daily earnings, the education of their wards, and the difficulties they are facing during these tough times.

The press release reads that “the families were given face masks and toilet soaps, and were taught about the importance of maintaining personal hygiene.”

The children of the families were given notebooks, writting pencils and colour pencils as part of the assistance campaign.

“Overall, the initiative was a success as the visiting teams could bring smiles on the faces of the families they visited,” an official said, adding that they wish all people who have plenty and can lend their helping hands to those who do not have plenty, come forward in these times so that humanity at the large is benefited.
