GDC Baramulla kick starts volleyball tournament in memory of Manjeet Beer Singh
The Department of Physical Education & Sports, Government Degree College, Baramulla kick-started intercollege volleyball tournament in the memory of late, Shri Manjeet Beer Singh, ex-Director, Department of Physical Education & Sports of the college. The event is roughly spread over two-weeks and witnessing massive participation across all Kashmir division colleges. Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Principal of the college and chief guest on the occasion, flagged off the event at the indoor stadium of the college. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included, former principals, Prof. Muhammad Ismail and Dr. Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Secretary, Staff Council, Dr. A. R. Malik, family members of late, Shri Manjeet Beer Singh, Convener, Sports Committee, Dr Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, and other faculty members of the college.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Lone welcomed all the dignitaries, participating teams, and in particular, family members of late, Shri Manjeet Beer Singh. He highlighted and appreciated the unmatched contributions of late, Shri Manjeet Beer Singh not only in the sports arena but also in academic, administrative, and allied areas. He also applauded the idea of conceiving and organizing a sports event in memory of the aforementioned colleague who lost the battle of life due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Prof. Lone stressed the need and significance of organizing sports activities for the all-around development of the budding youth. “Sports is the best medicine not only for physical wellness but it guarantees you psychological health and well-being as well”, said prof. Lone. He assured all help and support in organizing sports and associated activities that are student-centric and ensure the holistic development of the students.

It is germane to mention here that in today’s inaugural matches GDC, Bijbehara, GDC Pampore, and GDC, Pulwama registered their wins against Amar Singh College, Srinagar, GDC, Ganderbal, and Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar, respectively.
Dr. Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, on behalf of the college, expressed sincere gratitude to the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Manager Sports Council, NCC Cadets, and NSS volunteers of the college for extending all help and support in planning, organizing, and executing the said event
