Budgam, March 15: Fresh snowfall was reported in Doodhpathri in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday, bringing a sudden return of winter-like conditions to the popular tourist destination.

The snowfall blanketed the meadows and surrounding hills with a fresh layer of snow, while temperatures dropped noticeably across parts of the district, residents said.

The weather shift comes as several areas of Kashmir have been witnessing fluctuating conditions in recent days due to western disturbances affecting the region.

Locals said light to moderate snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of Doodhpathri during the day, transforming the scenic meadow into a white landscape.

The snowfall has covered the meadows and nearby hills, giving the area a winter-like appearance again,” a local resident said.

Visitors and locals were seen taking photographs of the snow-covered scenery as the sudden change in weather enhanced the natural beauty of the area.

Doodhpathri, located about 42 kilometres from Srinagar, is a well-known tourist destination in central Kashmir and attracts visitors during summer for its green meadows, pine forests and flowing streams.

Officials said occasional snowfall in higher-altitude areas of Kashmir during early spring is not unusual when western disturbances bring moisture to the region.

Authorities have advised travellers to follow safety guidelines while visiting higher-altitude tourist destinations.

Locals also believe the fresh snowfall could draw more tourists in the coming days, as snow-covered landscapes often attract visitors even during early spring.
