District-Level Philatelic Exhibition VARMULPEX-2026 Begins at Baramulla

Special Cover on Habba Khatoon Peak Released; Exhibition Showcases India’s Heritage Through Stamps

Baramulla, September 29, 2026: The first-ever District-Level Philatelic Exhibition of Baramulla Division, VARMULPEX-2026, commenced today at the University of Kashmir North Campus, Delina, Baramulla. The two-day exhibition has been organized by the Department of Posts, Baramulla Postal Division, with the objective of promoting philately and creating awareness about India’s rich cultural, historical and natural heritage among students and the general public.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri Adam Mohi-U-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division, in the presence of faculty members, postal officials, students and philately enthusiasts. Among those present on the occasion were Shri Bilal Ahmad Lone, Senior Professor, University of Kashmir North Campus; Shri G.R. Bhat, Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla; and Shri Syed Roouf Ahmad, Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Adam Mohi-U-Din highlighted the educational and cultural value of philately, describing it as a hobby that enhances knowledge of history, culture, art and nature. He said philately continues to serve as a meaningful medium for connecting younger generations with the country’s heritage and traditions. He encouraged students to take up stamp collection as an enriching hobby and emphasized that exhibitions such as VARMULPEX provide an opportunity to learn about India’s diverse legacy through postage stamps and special covers.

On the occasion, a special cover on “Habba Khatoon Peak, Gurez Valley” was released, showcasing one of Jammu and Kashmir’s prominent natural landmarks.

VARMULPEX-2026 features nearly 2,000 rare postage stamps and special covers depicting various aspects of India’s history, culture, art, biodiversity and national achievements. The exhibition also highlights One District One Product (ODOP) initiatives and GI-tagged products of Jammu and Kashmir through special philatelic material issued by India Post.

As part of efforts to promote philately among young people, the exhibition includes quiz competitions, stamp design competitions, workshops and awareness sessions for school students. A seminar on philately was also organized on the opening day to introduce participants to the significance and scope of stamp collection.

Welcoming the participants, Shri Syed Roouf Ahmad highlighted the role of India Post in delivering citizen-centric services, ensuring financial inclusion and providing last-mile connectivity across the country. He also underlined the contribution of the postal network in supporting social and economic development.

The exhibition will continue till September 30 and is expected to attract large participation from students, educational institutions, philatelists and members of the public from across Baramulla district.
