Democracy Demands Transparency, Not Secrecy”: Waheed Parra Urges Govt to Release Reservation Report

Share

Srinagar, June 20: Pulwama MLA Waheed Ur Rehman Parra has sharply criticized the Jammu and Kashmir administration for withholding the report prepared by the subcommittee on reservation rationalisation, calling it an affront to democratic values and a betrayal of public trust.

In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Parra stated, “There is no room for secrecy in a democracy. Institutions must draw legitimacy from transparency, not concealment.” He underscored that the report holds direct consequences for the future of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth and should be made public without delay.

Parra also invoked the Right to Information (RTI) Act, arguing that public authorities are bound by law to ensure proactive disclosure of such documents. He urged the administration to table the report in the legislative assembly, stating, “The assembly is the House of the People, not a political party’s fiefdom.”

Taking aim at the National Conference-led government, he accused it of shirking its responsibility and warned that the continued suppression of such vital information could trigger a peaceful public movement across the Union Territory.
