Srinagar, July 1: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a former daily wager of J&K Bank for allegedly embezzling more than ₹1.04 crore through fraudulent banking transactions and manipulation of loan accounts.

The chargesheet was presented before the Court of the Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 20/2018, registered under relevant provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the Crime Branch, the accused, Rouf Mohammad Wani, a resident of Hanjura, Chadoora in Budgam district, allegedly committed the fraud while working as a daily wager at the J&K Bank Business Unit in Dada Ompora.

The investigation found that Wani allegedly carried out unauthorised debits from customers’ accounts, illegally enhanced the credit limits of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan accounts without sanction, and misused banking credentials to divert funds for personal benefit.

Officials said the investigation established that the accused fraudulently secured wrongful financial gains for himself and his family members, resulting in a loss of ₹1,04,48,141 to the bank.

Upon completion of the investigation, the Economic Offences Wing filed the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings.

The Crime Branch has appealed to the public to stay alert against economic offences and promptly report any suspected financial fraud to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir. Victims may also submit complaints via email at [email protected].
