Tral: The residents of Batagund village in the Tral subdivision of Southern Kashmir have been yearning to see a full-fledged sports ground in their locality.
A group of residents said that a stadium was constructed by Rural Development Department (RDD), a year back, which was later inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tral.
They said that the construction of the stadium was welcomed by the residents, as it helps the sportsmen to play cricket tournaments in their own area.
The residents however rued that no protection bund or fencing is placed on the right side of the stadium, where a stream flows and poses threat to players, besides making the ground vulnerable to flash floods.
Suhail Ahmad, a local resident, said that “construction of sports ground in Batagund was an appreciable step taken by authorities, particularly by ADC Tral, Tehsildar Tral, concerned BDO and others.”
He further said that to protect this stadium from flash floods, there should be a protection bund around it.
Another local said that “during the cricket matches, ball usually goes into the stream, which causes hardships to players.”
He thanked the administration for constructing this stadium in the area and demanded that the stadium should be upgraded now.
It is pertinent to mention here that a big cricket tournament on the same sports ground was played recently, which was won by the Noorpora team.
The tournament witnessed hundreds of spectators from the nook and corner of the Tral sub-district.
