Anantnag residents irked over ‘extra’ power charges by PDD

Anantnag,15 December: Hefty power bills are burning holes in the pockets of Anantnag people, who allege that the PDD Dept has escalated their electricity bills.

According to sources, residents of Verinag on Wednesday protested against the PDD department chanted slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) for the hike of their electricity bills.

Sources said that protesters demanded immediate revocation of the electricity bills. They appealed to authorities to look into the matter.

However, complaints of inflated bills have also been received from various villages including Wanihama ,BonaDialgam, Kamad and other villages.

Talking to Arising state Gh Nabi a resident of verinag said that the authorities have inflated bills after enhancing consumption load without carrying out any survey,” he said, adding that some bills were increased from rupees 500 a month to rupees 900 and others from 700 to 1200.

Nabi said that we are facing huge inconvenience due to the erratic power supply .” Every day the unscheduled and frequent power cuts are taking a heavy toll on us and on the other side the PDD department is increasing our electricity bills,” he said.

Meanwhile, the residents of several villages of Anantnag have requested the higher authorities to look into the matter.
