Air Force Officer Alleges Sexual Assault, Harassment by Senior Officer; FIR Registered
SRINAGAR, Sept 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) following allegations of sexual assault and mental harassment by a 26-year-old female Flying Officer stationed at Air Force Station Srinagar. The complaint implicates a senior officer, and the FIR was lodged on Sunday under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with rape by a person in a position of authority.
The officer stated that the incident occurred during a New Year’s party on December 31, 2023, when a Wing Commander allegedly lured her to his room under the pretext of distributing gifts and then assaulted her. Despite resisting, she said she endured months of mental agony before deciding to file a complaint.
She further accused several senior officers of mishandling the internal investigation and dismissing her concerns. The officer described ongoing harassment, including monitoring of her communications, which has severely impacted her mental health, driving her to suicidal thoughts.
Police have handed over the investigation to an Inspector-rank officer.
