Principal, assistant professor suspended after harassment complaint at Srinagar college : Sakina Itoo
The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday ordered the immediate suspension of the principal and an assistant professor of Amar Singh College following allegations of harassment raised by a female student.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the action was taken within minutes after the complaint reached her office.
“As soon as the complaint came to us yesterday, I instructed the secretary that it should not take more than five minutes. Both officials were suspended immediately,” Itoo said.
The minister said a formal inquiry has been constituted and directed to submit its report within a week.
“Not six months, not one month — the inquiry will be completed in a week,” she said, adding that strict action would follow based on the findings of the probe.
Calling the incident “most unfortunate”, Itoo asserted that the government would not compromise on the safety and security of female students in educational institutions.
She confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed and inquiry orders have already been issued.(KNS)
