Fresh Snowfall, Landslides Shut Jammu–Srinagar Highway and Other Key Routes
Srinagar :The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the vital road link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was closed on Tuesday following multiple landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides triggered by incessant rainfall, officials said.
Traffic officials confirmed that the highway remains blocked at several stretches, and men and machinery have been pressed into service to clear the debris. However, intermittent rainfall continues to hamper the restoration efforts.
Meanwhile, several other key mountain routes, including the Mughal Road, the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) Road, and the Sinthan Top Road, have also been closed to vehicular movement due to heavy snowfall, which has rendered the roads slippery and unsafe for travel.
The Meteorological Department said that higher reaches of Kashmir have received fresh snowfall since Monday, while plains have been lashed by continuous rain, resulting in a sharp drop in temperatures across the Valley.
Authorities have advised travelers to avoid these routes until the weather improves and the roads are fully cleared for traffic.
