Srinagar, April 09: Senior BJP leader and party’s J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur today said that the decision of 11 separatist organisations—once affiliated with the Hurriyat Conference—to quit separatism, is a major and welcome development in the region’s evolving political narrative.

“This is a clear indication that separatism has no space left in Kashmir. The people have seen through the false promises and destructive agenda of separatist forces and are now choosing peace, prosperity, and nationalism,” Thakur said in a statement.

He credited the change to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “2019 was a turning point. Modi ji has left no option for the people of Jammu and Kashmir other than to embrace nationalism. The vision of a new and developed Kashmir is resonating with the people.”

Thakur further asserted that Pakistan-backed agendas have lost all relevance in the Valley. “There are no takers for the Pakistani narrative in Kashmir now. Those still wearing the garb of separatist ideology must follow suit and join the national mainstream,” he said.

Calling it a “positive shift” in the political and social consciousness of the region, Thakur added that the exodus from separatist ranks is proof that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are looking forward, not backward.
