Srinagar, Nov 22: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the formation of a three-member Cabinet sub-committee to address concerns surrounding the reservation policy. The decision aims to ensure fairness and justice for all while addressing grievances raised by various groups.

The Chief Minister highlighted the growing concerns from two sides: open category youth who feel marginalized and those already benefiting from reservations who fear losing their entitlements.

“The sub-committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the reservation policy, including adherence to recent Supreme Court directives, and recommend measures to protect everyone’s rights without depriving any group,” Abdullah stated.

On the release of political prisoners, the Chief Minister clarified that statehood is essential for such decisions, as law and order remain under central jurisdiction. He noted efforts to ease verification processes, which have been used as tools of harassment, with further relief anticipated.

Referring to the Assembly resolution on special status, Abdullah emphasized that it remains active, with no opposition during its passage, and serves as a gateway for future discussions. He also responded to comments by Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, reiterating Congress’s external support for the National Conference.

He dismissed claims undermining the significance of the resolution, pointing out that it was actively debated by the BJP in states like Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

Addressing public grievances, Abdullah expressed hope for improved power supply during winter and reiterated his call for justice regarding allegations of torture in Kishtwar. “If misconduct is proven, those responsible should face strict action, including court-martial,” he said.
